Racing towards the exit, partially pushing the others ahead of him (it's a Guardian thing), Raferties finally burst back out into the warm sunlight, tumbling to the ground and rolling over his own wings a couple of times before finally coming to a stop not far from the others, as behind them the castle imploded and was no more. For a few moments, the angel lay there, panting for breath and willing both the ringing in his ears and the thundering pace of his heart, which threatened to make him faint, to still. Cassandra's plan, all their enduring and efforts, his risk at using the Enochian words when he was not of their heaven, Scarheart (Hren?) being made to face his past (perhaps the hardest trial of all)… it was finally, truly, over.

For a brief time, Raferties' mind wandered over those last moments, the undead monstrosity's words and how he had taunted them. It was rare that someone could overpower him with magic like that; clearly using the foreign words had drained him greatly, even before the deceased king had tried to extinguish his life. He could sense that Belial would lecture his angel for the risks, but to get back to the devil, it had been a risk Raferties had been willing to make.

When Scarheart spoke again, Raferties finally opened his eyes and pulled himself to sit up, looking the man over. He was bloody and wounded, and the paleness the Lorekeeper would bet was as much to do with the ghosts he'd had to face as much as his wounds. Still, the angel moved within reach, giving the last of his healing magic to the woodsman and by the touch also offering what comfort and reassurance he could.

“I do not know whether you are mortal or immortal,” he said, normally now that the castle was gone. “I could make attempts to find that out, if you desire, but such at the moment is far beyond my ability. However, regardless of the results of with inquiries, a life lived to the fullest is always a life worth living.” Then he turned to Cassandra, a smile on his lips. “Do not apologize, my friend. While yes I suffered some wounds, and am very tired, in the end all turned out well. A potential threat to my home has been banished, and I have made new friends as well. Neither makes my decision to come here fruitless; I am glad for it. “ He returned her hug fondly, honestly (as if a Solarian could do anything any other way!) liking the both of them. “And I would surmise that I could not have gotten through it without any of you, either.”

Most of the rest of the conversation consisted of checking each others' well-being and assurances that this wouldn't be the last time they got together, as well as Raferties voicing that if they were ever in need of him, for any reason, to please not hesitate to call upon him. Then he winged his way home to the weyr, to rejoin Belial and Kaya and Keldos. And perhaps surprisingly (or not, for those who knew the most about the angel) certain details about what happened – Scarheart being Cassandra's 'master,' Scarheart's true name, his immortality, and his connection to their castle that had caused it all – remained locked in the angel's mind where only Belial would ever have any inkling of it, for Raferties was Lorekeeper, and what he desired none to know, none did.

When he found the statuette as he was preparing to turn in for bed, Raferties couldn't help but chuckle. What a perfect memento to remember the events (not that he could ever forget them!). Yes, he did hope that he would run into Scarheart and Cassandra again someday, of that he was certain. But for now, Raferties would rest, and recover, and eventually pen the story of what happened when a castle fell from the sky and made dragons sing.
